Injectables

There was once a day and age where injectables such as Botox or collagen fillers were spoken of in hushed tones and accusatory tones. Those days are a distant past, and the proof is that many women opt to have minor injectable work performed to not only still the deepening of wrinkles but to also prevent certain expression based wrinkles from occurring in the first place! If you’d like to learn more about that, check out our post on preventative Botox. Nowadays, there are many different injectables and filler treatments out there that can relax muscles that cause wrinkles and fill lost volume that appear as lines or hollows. The Herschthal Practice offers a great variety of choices in this category of aesthetic dermatology that has gained so much traction. One of the most popular fillers we use is Restylane. Restylane is a well known dermal filler, but many people don’t know that there’s actually a few different offerings from Galderma Laboratories (the manufacturers of Restylane). Let’s dive right into the different types of Restylane and which may be right for you!

The Various Types of Restylane

Restylane-L

One of types of Restylane is Restylane-L is intended to be used as the general dermal filler product in just about anywhere on the face—however, other formulations may be more suitable depending on which part of the face needs to be filled in. Restylane-L is a formulation that includes lidocaine—a topical numbing agent that is certain to make the experience much more comfortable for patients who are sensitive to pain or injections.

Nasolabial folds, cheeks, tear troughs and lips are the most common injection sites for Restylane-L

Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft is a longer-lasting formulation compared to the oft-cited 12 months that regular Restylane lasts. It is used primarily in situations where the recipient would like to add more volume to their cheeks or sometimes the dorsal portion of their hands. While many people associate cheek fillers with work done towards the upper half of the face by the cheekbones, products like Restylane Lyft can be used to fill in any part of the cheek. Many people have begun to take advantage of subtle filler work to plump up their cheek area despite showing minimal signs of aging.

Restylane Defyne and Refyne

Defyne and Refyne are also other types of Restylane, both distinguished by their use of Galderma’s XpresHAn Technology which gives more specific characteristics to the hyaluronic acid that comprises dermal fillers today. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar that occurs in the skin but can be aggregated and injected for further dermal benefits. Much like collagen and elastin, hyaluronic acid in the body becomes less and less available, causing our skin to over time look less plump and full.

Restylane Defyne skews the delicate balance between support and flexibility towards support—meaning that it will hold the shape in the injected area a bit better than say, Refyne, which is intended to be more flexible and thus subtle. Ideally, Refyne would be used on more moderate nasolabial folds and Defyne would be brought out for more severe folding.

We understand that this can get confusing, and so we at The Herschthal Practice recommend setting up a consultation.

Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse

Silk and Kysse are some other types of Restylane fillers specifically designed with the lips in mind. Hyaluronic acid excels in filling out locations that require subtlety and fluidity of motion. Because our lips are constantly moving and are highly expressive, Restylane Silk and Kysse provide a natural-looking result by using the smallest HA particles than those used in the other Restylane products.
