Restylane® is another hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler, similar to the Juvéderm line of products. It works the same way to build facial volume which reduces the visible signs of aging. Restylane® is an anti-aging arsenal used by The Herschthal Practice, treating residents of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, FL. Fillers are a key component of the “Revolumizing” category of our exclusive TR3+ approach.

What is the Difference Between Restylane® and Other Hyaluronic Acid Fillers?

The differences are subtle. In both cases, hyaluronic acid fillers add volume to the treated areas. This volume takes the place of fat and collagen, a natural component of the skin which depletes at a rate of about 1% per year after the age of 20. Hyaluronic acid is also a substance found naturally in the body in all cells, and it attracts water, allowing the skin to store more moisture, an ability that also fades with time.

Restylane® tends to be cohesive, rather than diffuse. This means the substance stays closer to the injection site, another factor suiting it to building volume as well as smoothing skin. The newer Restylane® products Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne have a more flexible technology, allowing them to move with facial expressions. This lends a more natural appearance to the fillers.

Are There Complications Associated with Restylane® Use?

Any hyaluronic acid treatment, and indeed any dermal injection, carries a risk of a reaction at the injection site. This can include swelling, redness, and bruising, and these reactions may not occur with each treatment or at each injection site. Visible effects of reactions rarely last longer than a week.

The treatments themselves are largely painless. Usually, the dermatologist applies a numbing cream to the treatment area, so the injections themselves are pain-free. Some Restylane® products include lidocaine, a common local anesthetic, causing temporary loss of feeling in the area surrounding its injection.

How Do I Choose a Dermal Filler?

The better question to ask is, “What do I want to change about my appearance?” Think of Dr. David and Dr. Jordana as artists. They’ll consult with you about the results you want to see; then they’ll recommend the products and procedures best suited to meet your expectations. Just as you’d leave the choice of paints and media to a fine artist, you’ll get the best results from the dermal fillers recommended by The Herschthal Practice professionals.
