HydraFacial® Boca Raton</p

The continual renewing process of the skin, called exfoliating, slows down as we age, leaving behind roughness and discoloration that would have automatically regenerated when we were younger. Microdermabrasion picks up where the body leaves off. Both the board-certified dermatologists and the skilled, professional staff at The Herschthal Practice are experts in performing these relaxing and renewing procedures. The Herschthal Practice services residents of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and the surrounding South Florida communities.

What is Microdermabrasion?

This procedure approximates and accelerates the natural exfoliation process of the skin. It’s particularly effective when the natural process slows due to aging. Using a minimally abrasive instrument or a solution with gentle abrasives suspended within it, the thick, outer layer of the skin is gently sanded away. Microdermabrasion treats minor scars, skin discolorations, sun damage, and stretch marks. It can also reduce or remove conditions such as:

  • Hyperpigmentation, or areas of darkened skin
  • Age spots
  • Blackheads
  • Fine wrinkles and skin lines
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne and minor acne scarring

The stimulation of the skin from a microdermabrasion treatment produces a refreshed look and helps stimulate collagen growth deeper in the skin, restoring some of its youthful vigor. Natural collagen production falls off with age, so stimulation naturally counters off the aging effect.

Does Microdermabrasion Differ From Dermabrasion?

HydraFacial being performed on woman

Yes. While both use a similar idea to create improvements in skin condition, as the prefix “micro” suggests, microdermabrasion is a less intense version of dermabrasion. After dermabrasion surgery, the skin is swollen and red, accompanied by aching, burning, and tingling sensations. Speaking and eating may be difficult and accompanied by pain. Recovery time ranges from a few days to about a week. Patients use painkillers and topical ointments during the recovery period.

Microdermabrasion usually has no downtime. While skin may be more sensitive and pink for about 24 hours, microdermabrasion is minimally invasive and non-surgical.

What is a HydraFacial®?

The HydraFacial® treatment adds other care to the basic microdermabrasion process. As well as exfoliating and removing dead skin cells, the HydraFacial® treatment adds back nutrients, such as antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and peptides, in a multi-step process that extends the effects of the microdermabrasion itself. The full HydraFacial® procedure takes about 30 minutes, causes no pain or discomfort, works on every skin type, and requires no downtime.
