As an aesthetic dermatology practice that has been offering injectables in Palm Beach County, we can attest to their growing popularity. Every week, we have new patients that are excited to get their first injectables treatment done, whether that be Botox or dermal fillers such as the ever-popular Juvederm.

How Often Should I Get Botox?

Botox can help us turn back the clock on emerging wrinkles and fine lines that appear on our faces to remind everyone that we were around more than 30 years ago. Botox works by injecting botulinum toxin into the skin to relax the muscles responsible for giving us those pesky wrinkles.

As an FDA approved treatment, Botox is a very well-studied, and safely tolerated treatment protocol for wrinkles, fine lines, migraines, TMJ, and more. The only question is, how often should you be getting Botox injections?

Botox injections tend to last anywhere from 3-6 months. Depending on the person, it can last on the shorter side or longer side due to the fact that everyone metabolizes the product differently. It also depends on the site of injection since certain muscles will be larger/stronger than others, thus it will wear off quicker.

Many Botox injectors will recommend 3-4 months, but at the Herschthal Practice, we make it a point never to oversell our patients. After developing a relationship with you and seeing how you react after a few sessions, we will be able to determine the optimal time to re-up on your Botox injectables.

How Often Should I Touch Up on Fillers?

Depending on which product you use, Juvederm, Restylane, etc, fillers can vary wildly in how long they last. Not only do the products have their pros and cons, but depending on the injection site, longevity can vary greatly.

For example, according to Restylane’s manufacturers, 18 months for the nasolabial folds with standard Restylane, 12 months in the cheeks, 6 months for the backs of the hands and nasolabial folds with Lyft, 6 months for the lips, and up to 12 months for facial wrinkles and folds with Refyne and Defyne are standard.

Unfortunately, how often you should get filler touch ups isn’t as simple as how often you should get touch ups with Botox. It seems, as a rule of thumb, that cheeks appear to last the longest while lips will get the least mileage, but that is a generalization.

Dermal Fillers in Palm Beach County

Are you confused? That’s okay! It is a bit confusing. Popular fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are actually comprised of several offerings under the brand umbrella that have their own benefits depending on how they are to be used.

So how often should I get touch ups with fillers?

The truth is it just depends. On the product that is used as well as your own personal chemistry. This is why it is critical to develop a relationship with an injector you can trust to give you injections only as needed, as opposed to trying to make a quick buck, of which there are many less than qualified injectors out there.
